Enhanced Rest: The Synergy of CBD with Melatonin

Combining CBD's calming effects with melatonin's sleep-regulating properties offers a potent natural solution for those struggling with sleep issues. This comprehensive guide explores how the synergy between CBD and melatonin...

WHAT IS MELATONIN?

Melatonin is one of the main neurohormones produced in the central nervous system. It is formed in the pineal gland and its task is to monitor and coordinate the operation of the biological clock, which regulates circadian rhythms. Melatonin has an impact on the state and quality of sleep, and this is due to regulating the light-dark cycle. The amount of the hormone of “darkness”, because this is the colloquial name for melatonin, increases and decreases depending on the duration and intensity of the body's exposure to light. As the name suggests, the darker it is the more melatonin is produced, and the brighter it gets the lower is its synthesis and production.

According to numerous studies, it turns out that the lower the level of melatonin in the body, the worse the quality of sleep. Additionally, the proper functioning of the immune system also becomes limited. If we don’t sleep well, are unable to sleep all night without persistent waking up, we wake up too early or we go to bed too late, then sooner or later we are going to experience problems. Fatigue, distraction, and sleeplessness are just some of the effects of not having enough melatonin. Unfortunately, the amount of produced melatonin decreases rapidly with age. After the age of 50, the quality of sleep decreases and its amount becomes insufficient to regenerate the body. The cardiac system, immune system, and general well-being suffer from it.

WHEN TO TAKE MELATONIN WITH CBD?

If we're talking about the best time of day to take CBD with melatonin, it's definitely the evening, preferably half an hour before going to sleep. We do not recommend using oil NO.10 as a substitute for other CBD oils taken during the day, because its consumption causes increased drowsiness. In addition to melatonin and CBD, oil NO.10 includes a specially composed mixture of terpenes which make it easier to fall asleep, as well as a lavender inflorescence extract, which has a positive impact on reducing stress and calms the body. Therefore, it should be remembered when we can take it.

PARKINSON'S DISEASE

When reviewing research available in scientific papers, we've noticed the possibility of using melatonin with CBD in the case of patients struggling with Parkinson's disease. 89-98% of patients suffering from this neurodegenerative disease complain about insomnia, sleep deprivation, or seizures during the day. Research show that these sleep related problems are a consequence of low melatonin secretion and circadian rhythm disorders. CBD oil has a relaxing and anxiety-relieving effect, and in combination with melatonin it can be much more effective in terms of serious problems experienced by patients with Parkinson's disease.

SLEEP DISORDERS IN CHILDREN

Sleep and behavioural disorders, especially in children, constitute another case in which taking CBD with melatonin may be helpful. According to studies, long-term use of melatonin significantly reduces the time between going to bed and falling asleep, increases the quality of sleep, and improves the mood after waking up. Additionally, the level of irritability and hyperactivity decreases, and the ability to communicate improves. According to studies, these effects may be emphasized when melatonin is combined with CBD, because the cannabidiol has a relaxing effect, facilitates falling asleep and, above all, has no addictive or intoxicating properties.

PAIN SYNDROMES

As it was mentioned above, melatonin in combination with CBD has a calming and drowsy effect, while it is worth emphasizing that it can also possess painkilling properties. It is worth noting the benefits of taking CBD with melatonin before or during menstruation. For a large number of women, PMS, i.e., premenstrual syndrome, can be very painful. It may be accompanied by mood swings, severe headache and abdominal pain, sore muscles, and sleep disturbances. CBD with melatonin should reduce the intensity of pain and discomfort before, and during the first days of menstruation, and additionally it will take care of the quality of sleep, during which your body will regenerate and gain energy for the following day.

MELATONIN CBD DOSING

As we already know, the correct concentration of the hormone of darkness positively affects the body and the operation of the biological clock. CBD oil NO.10: SLEEP constitutes a carefully developed formulation that combines the relaxing and calming effect of cannabis with the health properties of melatonin. One recommended dosage of oil (1 ml = 1 pipette) provides the body with 2 mg of naturally extracted melatonin, 33 mg of CBD, 33 mg of lavender extract, and 10 mg of terpenes, which allows to supplement its deficiencies, restore the correct circadian rhythm and experience a pleasant feeling of relaxation and tranquillity.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO CONSUME TOO MUCH MELATONIN?

Science has not recorded an overdose of melatonin. However, it should be remembered that melatonin should be taken according to the manufacturer's recommendations. In our case, these are 2 mg of melatonin per serving of oil boosted with 33 mg of cannabidiol, taken once a day, late in the evening. It is necessary to observe the body and reduce or increase the dosage as necessary, without exceeding the maximum dose of 10 mg of melatonin per day. However, you don't have to worry about taking too much melatonin. According to many clinical studies and available literature, the use of melatonin turns out to be very safe and does not cause any side effects. The only thing that can happen to us is intense drowsiness, which by the way will be a gentle hint from your body that you should reduce the dosage and take half a pipette (0.5 ml) of oil NO.10 before the upcoming rest.

PROPERTIES OF LAVENDER

Apart from melatonin and terpenes that have a sedative effect, oil NO.10: SLEEP also includes a lavender inflorescences extract, which has a relaxing and calming effect. It has a beneficial effect on reducing stress, which means that it is able to significantly improve the quality of sleep for people suffering from various sleep disorders.

In case of our oil with melatonin, we use lavender from organic plantations in Croatia, which is characterized by a high content of linalool and linalyl acetate (>50%). Linalool and linalyl acetate constitute key and major components in lavender and are responsible for all health properties.

A study published in 2007 by a team of scientists shows that CBD in combination with melatonin can reduce the intensity of pain during the period near menopause. This is because CBD is able to inhibit the absorption of anandamide, a compound responsible for experiencing pain. In addition, CBD alone reduces experiencing pain due to activating CB1 and CB2 receptors. The mentioned cannabinoid receptors are found throughout the body and regulate naturally delivered cannabinoids.

A literature review published by South Afr J Crit Care shows that the melatonin hormone has a beneficial effect on mitochondrial metabolism and stimulates the activation of enzymes. Apart from that, melatonin possesses anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial properties. Such properties may be useful in the palliative care of elderly people who are struggling with many problems, including cancer. Melatonin and CBD help to eliminate side effects of medications.
