The popularity of CBD continues to grow. Many people replace their medicines with high-quality CBD Oil. Some customers may still ask “is CBD legal in Thailand?” We hope to answer this and other questions in this article.

Even though Thailand has some of the worlds harshest stances on drugs one may be surprised to learn that the countries stance towards CBD has changed and it is now legal and available for purchase.

Let us begin by answering some of the basic questions one may have in regards to Cannabis, Cannabis products, and CBD oil in Thailand.

IS IT LEGAL TO BUY CBD IN THAILAND ONLINE: YES

While many stores offer CBD online, it is technically illegal, as per an August 2018 statement from AECOSAN (The Spanish food and drug agency) clarifying that CBD oils being sold as health food online are illegal for consumption.

The only caveat to this is that like in most other countries, the THC content must stay below 0.2%.

Since this change in law CBD oil can be easily purchased online in Thailand. One can also enter the country with their own CBD oil supply.

IS IT LEGAL TO BUY CBD IN THAILAND OFFLINE: YES

Due to the changes made by the Public Health Ministry, Thailand has become an importer of CBD oil it can be found for sale in natural health and alternative medicine stores.

CBD oil is not as popular in Thailand as it is in other countries. So, while it is legal and available one may have a harder time finding it compared to Europe or North America.

IS IT LEGAL TO GROW HEMP FOR CBD IN THAILAND? YES

Changes in Hemp cultivation have occurred as well. Growing Hemp for personal use is legal only if one obtains the necessary licenses and permits. One must also make sure to grow one of the approved low THC strains if they wish to cultivate Hemp for the purposes of CBD oil production.

IS IT LEGAL IN THAILAND TO BUY PRODUCTS CONTAINING ABOVE 0.2% OF THC FOR MEDICAL USE: YES

Surprising many observers, Thailand recently made allowances for medical Cannabis for those suffering from aggressive cancers and a number of other diseases. Currently, there are some 4000 individuals registered with the government as medical marijuana users.

This being said, the system is heavily controlled and the likelihood that an individual will be able to take advantage of medical marijuana in Thailand is quite low at this point in time.

IS IT LEGAL IN THAILAND TO BUY PRODUCTS CONTAINING ABOVE 0.2% OF THC FOR RECREATIONAL USE: NO

No. While many changes have been made in regards to the use of CBD oil and other Cannabis products for medical purposes, there does not seem to be any political climate for legalizing recreational use.

Thailand has a reputation for having some of the world's strictest drug laws and using Cannabis recreationally is heavily advised against.

CONCLUSION

Due to recent legal changes CBD oil is legal to purchase and use in Thailand. While it may be legal individuals are likely to have a difficult time finding CBD oil outside of the big cities and buying their supplies online may be a better option.

It is important to remember that while CBD oil is legal it must contain less than 0.2% THC content or one may face legal issues if caught.
